Our Eventful May

The past few weeks have been pretty exciting for the Wrights.  

Olivia is learning new skills each week. She continues to love to sing.  You should have seen her this morning singing, "You Raise Me Up" with Josh Groban.  She also loves to lead music with the chorister at church.  This past week she learned how to pull herself to standing position, clap, and say "bye-bye" in conjunction with some sort of motion with her hand.  It was a big week for our little girl.  More than anything, I love how excited she gets when she tries out her new skills.  

Claire and I enjoyed some mother/daughter time this week at a church activity.  Claire is such a joy for our family.  She has SO MUCH emotion when she sings and dances.  I can't get enough of it.  Another one of her favorite activities is just cuddling on the couch and reading - which I also can't get enough of.  

Jonathan and I have started reading "The Magic Tree House" books with the kids.  We are currently on book #3, Mummies in the Morning.  I love going into Jacob's room in the morning and finding him reading the latest chapter.  

Jacob lost his first tooth a couple of weeks ago!!!  It was loose for over a month and we were getting concerned that it may never fall out.  With a lost tooth (and tooth fairy money) comes a new savings account.  He was so proud to bring in the $27 he has saved up over the past 3 years and dump out every last penny onto the bankers counter.  

Jacob is also enjoying yoga at school every week during the month of May (yes, we do live in Oregon).  It is a free after school program that is offered every Thursday this month.  His two best friends are also in his class.  After the first day, he came home with a bracelet that says, "Choose Love".  It is nice to see the boys exchange swords, samurais, and anything else destructible for a few moments of love and zen.  

We went to Central Point/Medford a couple of weeks ago to check out old renters and check in new renters.  While we were there, my cousin Melody came up with her two girls and we were joined by her sister, Kellie, who lives in the area.  The kids had a lot of fun playing together.  We don't get to see them nearly enough as we would like to, now that we live even further from my side of the family.  My mom and Turner also came up (though there are no pictures to prove it) and the kids were ecstatic as usual to see them.

Olivia officially loves the swing more than ever.  She loved the thrill and excitement of it all.  She gripped that  swing so tight that I am surprised her knuckles didn't turn white.

April 2013: Science Fair, Tulip Festival, Fun with Family, and our 7th Anniversary!

April was a fun-filled month (who says medical school has to be grueling?).  First, Jacob won first place (of the K-3rd grade age group) at his school science fair.  He wrote up the entire report by himself and performed nearly all of the experiment by himself.  He swabbed various surfaces and then swabbed some prepared nutrient agar (I prepared the medium) in order to grow colonies of bacteria to see which surface would produce the highest concentration of "germs".  He was so proud of his accomplishment.  

Later in the month, I took the kids up North (about 45 minutes from Lebanon) to attend the Woodburn Tulip Festival.  The Wooden Shoe Tulip Farm (where the festival is held) has over 40 acres of tulips and daffodils.  

Jonathan's brother Ben and his wife, Kristi, came from Utah for an open house in Medford to celebrate their union.  Nikita also flew out to Medford from Idaho.  It was so good to see them and get to know Kristi better.  How grateful we are that Jonathan's brothers have married such amazing women.  

On April 29th, Jonathan and I celebrated our 7 year anniversary!  This was our first time celebrating with our kids.  Jonathan had a tough Neurology exam soon after, so we didn't go out on the actual day.  We did go out on a date last night while some wonderful friends of ours took our kids.
